Spring 2018 THE NEW BARKER 69 www.TheNewBarker.com Most of the dogs that have been adopted through the Bleau Adopts program have been Fontainebleau Miami Beach employees. But there have been a couple of exceptions.“We work with a lot of vendors who visit us often. One time a vendor from NewYork fell in love with our featured dog. He called his partner, who flew in from NewYork that evening. The next day they went to the Humane Society of Greater Miami, where the dog was from, and adopted him. They all flew home together later that same day.We receive photo- graphs from the couple and their NewYork dog all the time, now,” said Soffer. The Bleau Adopts program is an extension of Fontainebleau’s existing pet program, which offers spacious rooms and exclusive amenities to four-legged guests, including a complimentary dog tag with “return to” information, in- room pet movies, and an on-premises, ocean-side dog park. Their sister property,Turnberry Isle Miami, is also dog friendly and may soon incorporate the adoption program. “We’re consulting with other luxury properties that may be interested in developing a similar program,” said Soffer, who is the parent of three rescue dogs. Four Tampa area ladies, Ruth Berg, Julia Belcher, Heather Cranford and Lynne Tonte often travel together with their pups. One of their favorite Florida staycations is the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort in Amelia Island. They always try to visit at least once a year as the resort is so welcoming of their four legged companions. Recently, seven of their dogs traveled with them to Amelia Island and enjoyed the property’s amenities including nights by the fire pit. The hotel clerk was so taken by Fifi and fell in love with her. Once in their ocean view room, Dolce Maria (left) quickly found the Omni sup- plied refreshment bar (aka as the water bowl). The resort has shopping, restaurants, walking paths through lush greenery and a beautiful pool.“Beach side walks with the pups is one of our favorite things to do,” said Lynne Tonte.
