Here are three of those amazing stories, in their words.Sully Strong.Sully came into my life in December 2014. Iwas only supposed to be his temporary foster.A month before, someone found him behindthe dumpster on the property of the SalvationArmy in Ocala. The broken bones in his legshad begun to heal, but not in a good way. Hismuscleshadbeguntoatrophy. Sully was taken tothe Humane Society ofMarion County, whereit was decided that hedjust be a gimpy dog.I had been fostering him for about a week before Idecided to have my amazing veterinarian, Dr. Rob(left) at Haile Plantation Animal Clinic, take a look athim. Radiographs revealed that he had broken bothhis radius and ulna, and the growth plate in his wrist. At first, we tried a conservative approach to treatmentby just splinting his leg. When it was apparent this was not going to work, Itook him to the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Sullyunderwent his first surgery in February 2015. He was splinted again whilehisboneshealed.Hehadmajorreconstructivesurgery in July to fix his angular limb deformity, and had an external fixator placed on his leg forseventy-six days. On October 27th, Sully had his third (and hope-fully his last) surgery to remove a broken pin andclean out infected bone. Through it all, Sully hasbeen such an inspiration. In typical Pit Bull fashion,he's had a smile on his face almost the entire time.We call him Sully Strong.by Ashley Roehner.#TheNewBarkerPitBullHero.Lucy, Warrior Princess.Apparently,thedog-catcherinSimpson,Illinoisidentifies certain dogs as unadoptable and quicklystartstheprocesstodisposeofthem.LuckyforLucy, animal welfare advocates Cyndee and CarlBaker pulled her from animal services to temporarilyfoster her and give her a second chance.40 THE NEW BARKER www.TheNewBarker.com"
