A Hurricane Katrina love story.
After her home was blown apart during Hurricane Katrina, Nikki and her dog Maddie found themselves vulnerably out in the elements. Their only refuge was to cling to a tree as the storm raged around them. Each huge wave that smashed into the tree threatened to rip Nikki and Maddy apart. "When I needed Maddy to stay still, she seemed to have the sense that she couldn't wiggle, or I would have lost her," said Nikki.
Of course this is a love story with a happy ending that winds its way from New Orleans to St. Pete Beach.

Assisted Living Embraces Assisted Loving.
As America ages, more assisted living facilities are allowing pets. And that’s a good thing for residents and dogs alike.
She showed up on their porch the morning of what was about to be just another scorching hot summer day in July. Un-ceremoniously dumped, she sat patiently on the wooden bench, having nimbly climbed over the locked gate. It was getting hotter and she was getting thirsty. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d had a meal.
From his studio out back, he could hear the dogs barking inside the house. “That’s unusual,” he thought, and walked to the house to investigate. Looking out the front window, he spotted her and opened the door to escort her inside. “What are you doing here? How did you get here?” he asked her. The dogs were bouncing all over their new house guest. The man called his wife to tell her that he’d just found her mother, sitting on the front porch. No visible signs of transportation. No note as to how she arrived from her home, an almost two hour drive away.
