Case Study: Bruno (shown in photo on opposite page) isa seven-month old Labrador mix who presented toAnimal Hospital of Dunedin two days after adoption forcoughing and extreme lethargy. He was up-to-date onthe first rounds of his core vaccines (Bordetella, Da2pp,Rabies). Prior to adoption, he lived in multiple animalshelters. On presentation at our office, he was veryquiet but responsive with an elevated temperature of103.8F. Examination revealed dry gums, green nasaldischarge, a dry hacking cough, and toy stuffing withinhis feces. Bruno was so ill he could barely walk or holdhis head up. Chest and abdomen x-rays, bloodwork, urinalysis, heartworm test, and fecal float wereperformed to ultimately diagnose Bruno with CaninePneumovirus. Because he was severely sick, Brunowas placed on intravenous fluid therapy, oral andintravenous antibiotics, anti-nausea injections, andantitussives.
