b'Skye has since been adopted by a family who lives in Sweden. She is doing amaz-ing, and I have been told that she spreads so much happiness wherever she goes.Saving Urgent Animals in UkraineTransform A Street Dog (TFASD) hastaken in many urgent animals, and theyve taken in several other major medical caseslike Skye. They took in Chudo, who was found wandering the streets of Obolon,Ukraine after missiles hit there. He was in pain, with two bullets in his groin and atumor in his back. Doctors performed avery complicated and expensive surgery, but tragically, Chudo died shortly aftersurgery. They took in Maya, who had abadly injured leg, and another dog whowas hit by a car. They took in dogs whosurvived Borodyanka, and cats who sur-vived Bucha and Irpin. They take in olddogs, scared dogs, injured dogs and sickdogs.TheytookineightmoredogsfromapreviouslyoccupiedshelterinKyiv. Even though they are a dog rescue,Transform a Street Dog also saves cats. Transform A Street Dog, a U.S. based501(c)(3) non-profit, has been operatingon the ground in Ukraine since 2018.Prior to the war, TFASD operated as afoster based rescue. When the Russiansinvaded,millionsofpeopleweredis-placed by the war. Some shelters evacu-ated, and others were overwhelmed. Inaddition there was already a very signifi-cantstraypopulation.Quitesimply,there are not enough places for animalsto go. Peretrymkas Tohelpsavemorehomelessanimals,TFASDrecentlystartedbuildingthreeprivateshelters, called peretrymkas, or kennel houses. They have around 60 dogs in three loca-tionsatanygiventime,includingabunch of cats. In addition to the costs of operatingthesethreeshelters, theyhavealltheassociated expenses to care and feed the animals, plus vet appointments and newemergencies daily. With urgent dogs like Skye needing help, they are stretched thin. While they cant say no to major medical dogs like Skye, trying to balance expensiveveterinary care with the costs of rescuing other animals is difficult when funds aretight. Add to that, the war.UFROM MIKE MERRILL: There are a lot of good organizations helping Ukraine animals.Transform A Street Dog is a great one. Florida Urgent Rescue worked closely withTransform a Street Dog in Ukraine. Ive gotten to know them well, and I can personallyvouch for them. They are a reputable, reliable, fantastic organization, and they aresaving a lot of animals who would have no hope otherwise. They are dedicated peoplewho are doing amazing work with very limited resources. But they need help.
