I am currently experimenting withgouache (opaque watercolor) and acrylicpaints and abstracts.Ive been painting almost 15 years.Shortly after beginning to learn watercolor, Ibegan to show and sell my work, compete inshows and take commissions.My family always had dogs.When I wasvery young, we had a dachshund named Fritzy(Fritz von Schlitz III). When I was four wevisited the Orange County Humane Societyand adopted Spot, a young, full-grown mixedbreed, who had just wandered into the shelterand decided to stay. They didnt keep him in acratehe was just hanging out there. He wasan amazing dog-about-town (before leashlaws). Our postman rode a bike and Spottywould wait for him every day and accompanyhim on his route. Spot seemed to understandThe Sabbathhe wouldnt wait on Sundays,but other U.S. Postal holidays really throughhim offhe would wait in the front yard allday. He lived a long and adventurous life untilI was a junior in college.I began painting dog portraitsafter attending a workshop hosted byPat Weaver, who has been a cover artist forThe New Barker. During that first encounterwith watercolor, I painted our dog, Watson.Ive painted more than 300 dogs since.Watson is most definitely the inspirationfor my dog portraits. He was a very beautifuland kind dog, a rescue whose love for all of uswas truly infinite. When people say they lovetheir dog, I know right away what they aretalking about.Currently our dog family In Orlando, my studio is in a loft withconsists of a Schnoodle wonderful light spilling in from a skylight andnamed Neely. She is a mix of a big, glass-block window. In South Carolina, Iminiature Schnauzer and miniature have a larger studio upstairs, tucked away fromPoodle and the friendliest dog ever the rest of the house. I lose myself up there.
